George E. Swift, 95 of Girard, IL, passed away Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Sunrise Skilled Nursing and Rehab in Virden, IL.

George was born June 14, 1930, in Lowder, IL, a son of Oliver C. and Elsie Mae (Baker) Swift. George graduated from Girard High School with the class of 1949.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Terry E. Swift, brother, Oliver Charles Swift, sister, Eloise Barnes, and sister, Laura Prickett.

George was a police officer for the city of Girard in the 50's and 60's. He then went on to be a custodian at Girard High School for 5 years, retiring in 2000. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, of Athena, IL. George was a man of few words and enjoyed spending his time outside people watching. He was very private and often stuck to himself, but he always looked forward to family gatherings and having lunch with his friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026, 10:00 -11:00 am at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Girard, IL.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 am, Friday, January 16, 2026, at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Girard, IL.

Burial will follow in Union Chapel Cemetery, Girard, IL.

George is survived by friends and caretakers; Shelley and Mike Talkington, a son, 3 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Girard Fire and Rescue.
