Robert "Bob" J. Burns, 70, of Waverly, IL, formerly of Chesterfield, IL, passed away on Monday evening, December 22, 2025, at his home in Waverly, IL.

Robert was born March 26, 1955, in Jacksonville, IL, a son of Peter Joseph and Catherine (McGinnis) Burns. Robert graduated from Carlinville High School with the class of 1973.

Robert was a corrections officer at Jacksonville Correctional Center for many years, retiring in 2017. He liked to shoot trap and riding horses. Robert knew how to save money and as his family said he was "tighter then bark on a tree".

Robert was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Thomas P. Burns.

There are no services planned at this time.

Robert is survived by his brother, Daniel "Dan" J. Burns of Carlinville, IL, brother, Terrence "Terry" E. (Vicki) Burns of Chesterfield, IL, sister-in-law, Ruth Burns-Coatney of Carlinville, IL, and nine cousins.
