Linda Thebeau, 85, of Girard, Illinois, passed away on Thursday afternoon, October 2, 2025, at her home in Girard.
Born June 19, 1940, in Girard, Linda was the beloved daughter of Albert “Bert” and Virginia (Pitchford) Jones. She graduated from Girard High School with the Class of 1958 and attended Illinois State University (then Normal University). On April 15, 1966, she married George Thebeau in Alton, Illinois.
Following the birth of their children, Linda and George made their home in Girard for 28 years before retiring and spending time in Arizona, California, and Washington — years she treasured for the time they allowed her to spend with her grandchildren, Nick, Dylan, and Ella. In 2011, she returned to her hometown of Girard, where she lived out the remainder of her life surrounded by lifelong friends and extended family.
Linda’s life was a testament to faith, devotion, and service — to her family, her friends, and her community. She believed deeply in civic responsibility and engagement. She served multiple terms as Trustee of the Girard Township Board and supported Macoupin County as a polling place election official for national and local elections spanning more than two decades.
A lifelong member of the Church of the Brethren, Linda also served as a Director and an officer on the Board of the Brethren Home of Girard (Pleasant Hill Village).
Linda was a passionate advocate for public education and the library system, serving on the Board of the Girard Township Library and on the Girard High School Alumni Association Board, where she proudly recruited and passed the torch to a new generation of alumni leaders. She spent over 25 years as an administrative assistant and bookkeeper for the State of Illinois and the Girard School District.
She loved reading, working puzzles, watching Jeopardy! and Dateline, playing cards with her Thursday Card Group, and joining the Friday Lunch Ladies at favorite local restaurants. She will be remembered as strong-willed and resilient — yet above all, as the sweet and steady presence who embodied the heart of her community.
Linda was preceded in death by her husband, George Thebeau; her parents; her son, Joseph “Joe” Thebeau; and her brothers, Richard Jones and Lindell “Bub” Jones.
She is survived by her daughter, Jeanette (Kirk Enright) Thebeau of Indianapolis, IN; three grandchildren, Nicholas “Nick” Enright, Dylan Enright, and Ella Enright; and a large, loving extended family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Girard Fire and Rescue or the Girard Township Library.
