Alberta Louise Thorpe Obituary

Alberta Louise Thorpe, 88 of Carlinville, IL, passed away on Friday, July 11, 2025, at High Point in Carlinville, IL.


Alberta was born January 15, 1937, in Modesto, IL, a daughter of Carl and Edna (Hampton) Turner. Alberta graduated from Carlinville High School with the class of 1954.


She married Larry Thorpe on February 11, 1955, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Carlinville.


Alberta was a very talented woman. Not only was she a farm wife dedicated to raising her children, she was also a secretary at WIBI radio in Carlinville for many years. But her work ethic and drive started in high school with her first job being at Heinz Furniture. Alberta was a real estate agent with Perrings and Pritchard Real Estate, that was how she found her house which she spent many years.


She was a very active member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. She wanted everyone to have a place at the church so she started a seniors ministry as well as taught Sunday school for many years. She celebrated as part of the 100th anniversary committee for the church. Alberta didn't only speak about the church she also sung her praises with the choir.


Visiting people was one of Alberta's favorite activities, baking was another. She was known as a great cook and her rolls were especially delicious.


Alberta was preceded in death by her husband, Larry D. Thorpe, parents, son-in-law, Bruce William Hobkirk, and an infant brother.


Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, 10:00 to 12:00 pm at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Carlinville, IL.


Funeral Services will be conducted at 12:00 pm, on Saturday, July 19, 2025 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Carlinville.


Burial will follow in Mayfield Memorial Park Cemetery, Carlinville.


Alberta is survived by her daughter, Sandra L. Hobkirk of Carlinville, IL, son, David Thorpe of Carlinville, IL, grandson, Mike (Kristin) Hobkirk of Mount Laurel, NJ, granddaughter, Amy (Stephen) Matthews of Cypress, TX, great granddaughter, Maeve Hobkirk, great granddaughter, Lydia Matthews, sister, Carline Eades of Carlinville, IL, sister, Janet Summers of Columbia, IL, brother, Wendell (Mary Jo) Turner of Brunswick, MO, and several nieces and nephews.


Memorials may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church or Love Packages.
