Louis M. Bliss Jr., 78, of Girard, IL, passed away on Sunday afternoon, May 18, 2025, at HSHS St. Elizabeth Hospital in O'Fallon, IL.

Louis was born February 14, 1947, in Springfield, IL, a son of Louis M. and Violet May Overby Bliss. Louis graduated from Girard High School with the class of 1965. He married Rachel Williamson on November 28, 1985, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Virden,IL.

Louis was a proud member of the United States Army, serving in both Vietnam and Okinawa.

Louis was a coal miner with Freeman Coal Mine #1 in Farmersville, IL, where he worked as a roof bolter for ten years. He retired in 1989. Louis loved fishing, swimming, and watching wrestling.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents, sister; Janice Jones, and brother; James Bliss.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Girard, IL.

Burial will be held at a later date in Union Chapel Cemetery, Girard, IL.

Louis is survived by his wife; Rachel Bliss of Girard, IL, daughter; Billie Jo Aschmeller of Springfield, IL, son; Marion "Marty" J. (Samantha) Bliss of Springfield, IL, daughter; Brittney Morgan of Columbus, OH, son; Michael A. (Jenell) Bliss of Waggoner, IL, son; David A. (Dawn) Taylor of Redford, MO, son; Gary (Ruth) Taylor of Donnellson, IL, 22 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, sister; Connie Bliss of Chatham, IL, brother; Timothy Bliss of New Berlin, IL, brother; Gary Bliss of Carlinville, IL, several nieces and nephews and his beloved dog Alvin.
