Obituary of Darlene Faye Frakes

Darlene F. Frakes, 86 of Carlinville, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2025, at home in Carlinville, IL surrounded by loved ones. Darlene was born on February 1, 1939, to Everett and Mildred (Crays) Newby in Plainview, IL. Darlene attended Plainview schools. She married Garrett "Whitey" Frakes in 1957 in Middletown, Illinois. Darlene worked at Valley Steel, Glove Factory, Skate Board Factory, Friendship Nursing Home, and at Manu Petro gas station as a cashier, in Carlinville. Many people knew Darlene as Granny or Grandma that worked at the gas station. Darlene was a member of Plainview Baptist Church and of the Carlinville Moose Lodge. She liked watching game shows. She enjoyed baseball and was a very big Cubs fan. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers; Everett Newby, Jr., and Terry Alvin Newby. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, 10:00 to 12:00 pm at Plainview Baptist Church, Plainview, IL. Funeral Services will be conducted at 12:00 pm, Wednesday,March 19, 2025 at Plainview Baptist Church, Plainview. Burial will follow in Shipman Cemetery, Shipman, IL. Darlene is survived by her husband, Garrett "Whitey" Frakes of Carlinville, IL, two sons; Allen (Peggy) Frakes of Palmyra, IL, and Rick Frakes of Carlinville, IL, grandchildren; Travis (Kristy) Frakes, Mason Frakes, Jakoda (Joseph) Zinkan, and Tiffany (companion Josef Konneker) Frakes, great grandchildren; Kaden and Brock Sonneborn, Payton and Hunter Frakes. four sisters; Wonda Wayman of Medora, IL, Charlotte Ann Wallis of Modesto, IL, Judy Wallis of Plainview, IL, and Sharon Whitworth of Carlinville, IL, two brothers; Ralph (Ruth) Newby of Prairietown, IL, and Larry Newby of Plainview, several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Plainview Baptist Church or Plainview Food Pantry. Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Carlinville is in charge of arrangements.
