Obituary of Dorothy June Grothaus

Dorothy June Grothaus, 88, of Carlinville, passed away Thursday afternoon, July 20, 2017, at Carlinville Rehab and Health Care in Carlinville, IL.

Dorothy was born September 8, 1928, in Brighton, IL, a daughter of William Arthur and Irene Marie Morrison Lawton.

She married Eugene J. Grothaus on April 27, 1946 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bunker Hill, IL.

Dorothy was dedicated to her husband and raising her ten children. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, American Legion Aux. #554, and Red Hat Society, Chapter 63528 all in Carlinville, IL.

Dorothy was preceded in death by parents, husband in 2001, sisters, Gertrude Morrow, Viola Freeland, brothers, Ted Lawton, Leo Lawton and Bernard Lawton.

Private family services were held at Emmanuel Baptist Church on Saturday, July 22, 2017 with Rev. Cliff Woodman officiating.

Burial followed in the Mausoleum of Valor, Mayfield Memorial Park Cemetery, Carlinville, IL.

Dorothy is survived by son, William (Fran) Grothaus of Atlanta, GA, son, Robert (Betty) Grothaus of Springfield, IL daughter, Patricia Rook of Royston, GA, son, David (Susan) Grothaus of Bella Vista, AK, son, Dennis (Trisha) Grothaus of Fairview Heights, IL, daughter, Peggy (Bill) Duerr of Allen, TX, daughter, Judy (Ron) Tetzlaff of Carlinville, IL, daughter, Kathy (James) St. John of Dripping Springs, TX, son, Jim (Melinda) Grothaus Steeleville, IL, son, Tom Grothaus Lebanon, IL, 20 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren, brother, Lester Lawton of Dorchester, IL and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Shriner's Hospital.
