Obituary of John Schmidt

John Schmidt, 84, of Carlinville, passed away Thursday evening, March 9, 2017 at his residence in Carlinville, IL. John was born on August 28, 1932 to Frank and Julianna (Nagel) Schmidt in Yugoslavia. He served in the United States Army and attended 2 years of college. John married Ingeborg A. Kapahnke on June 1, 1957 and they were married for 59 years. John worked as the camp ground administrator at Lake Williamson Christian Center in Carlinville where he and his wife resided for the last 35 years. He was also a member of First Assembly of God in Carlinville during that time. John enjoyed fishing, golfing, soccer, watching sports and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports and enjoyed eating his wife's wonderful cooking. John was also a member of the ROMEO (Retired Old Men Eating Out) Club. John is survived by his wife, Ingeborg Schmidt of Carlinville, IL; daughter, Nancy (Jim) Boeckman of Austin, TX; son, Steven (Michelle) Schmidt of Carlinville, IL; 5 grandchildren, Zachariah, Solana, Matthew, Julianna and Michael; two sisters, Kathy Dittrich of Joplin, MO and Mary Ann (Nick) Prasopoulos of Fountain Hills, AZ; two brothers, Mike (Vera) Schmidt of Forest Hills, IL and Frank (Sonya) Schmidt of Park Ridge, IL, as well as several nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother, Peter Schmidt and a sister, Emma Schmidt. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 13, 2017 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Carlinvlle First Assembly of God. Funeral services will follow visitation at 11:00 am at the church with Rev. Gary Grogan officiating. Burial will take place in Prairie Lawn Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Carlinville First Assembly of God.
